Mandarin Oriental – Singapore

Mandarin Oriental

Room Type: Club Marina Bay
Stay: 2 nights

Booked due to the Shangri La Valley Wing being full and got quite excited to try a new hotel for a couple of nights.  The MO and the Ritz have always been a considered option for years.

How to get there and Check in

Taxi from the airport can take anything from 30 to 50 minutes depending when you land.

So arrival….small reception area which did not improve on having to stand in it for nearly an hour after they gave us a non smoking room with no balcony, not what had been booked!

No offer of refreshment or seats while they tried to persuade us to pay considerably more for a room with a balcony.  Plus we were not allowed to go to the Club Lounge as Jon had shorts on, it was lunch time.

Eventually we were given an Ocean Grand with a balcony to squeeze onto whilst looking at the Eye and the MBS at no extra charge.

Room

Beautiful room with a lovely view over the Marina, the Singapore Eye and the MBS.  A large open plan living and bedroom area separated by the desk and with a tiny balcony. Large bathroom with twin sinks, bathtub and separate shower plus plenty of wardrobe space.

This room had Club Lounge facilities.

Size: 53 sqm

small balcony overlooking Giza Zoo, the city and pyramids beyond
small, unfurnished balcony with great views (the inset pyramids are courtesy of a very powerful zoom!)

Dining

Stunning setting for breakfast and afternoon tea- plus you can smoke INDOORS!

We only used the Club Lounge located on the 19th floor.

This lounge serves a Champagne breakfast, Afternoon Tea, Evening cocktails and Hor d’oeuvres along with all day wines, beers and soft beverages.  The food served was very good and plenty of it, champagne was available in the evening but as usual the hours are limited.

near perfect eggs benedict with smoked salmon at the four seasons first residence, cairo, beautiful dining area with amazing stained glass windows
When it comes to our favourite - eggs benedict with smoked salmon, the First Residence rated highly!

Service

Poor in general, attitude at the lounge is awful and reception are useless.

Conclusion

Lovely room...eventually, good location at the Marina area and a really nice swimming pool area.

The Club Lounge food was excellent BUT the dress code is ridiculous.

Only children aged 12 and over are allowed and dress code is smart and casual although they have no idea what that means. No shorts for either men nor women or skirts above the knee and definitely not flip flops even if they are designer, I think proper shoes were mentioned at one point as I was telling her to go away after coming back from shopping for scones and clotted cream.

For this reason I doubt I would return.
