The Oberoi Udaivilas – Udaipur, India

After a disastrous one night at The Leela who managed to ruin a 50th birthday we moved over this hotel.

Arrival

Arrival was by boat as they came to pick us up from The Leela, we had a wonderful lady on reception who went out of her way to make sure our stay was perfect.  On being taken to the room they even had a birthday present waiting for Jon.

Room

One of my favourite bedrooms, not overly large but furnished with beautiful local fabrics and extremely comfortable with sofa, writing desk and window seat.  Bathroom was great with freestanding bathtub, sink, separate shower and views over the lake. The wardrobe section was not huge but adequate.. 

We had access to the pool and a small terrace with sun beds overlooking the lake which was perfect.

Dining

Breakfast was excellent with a very good selection and the evening meals were some of the best we had in India, the restaurant is by lake so again great views.

We again had evening drinks included which they allowed us to have in the gardens.

I also booked the Afternoon Tea cruising Lake Pichola which was wonderful and is actually the best tea we have had anywhere, huge selection of sandwiches and cakes and well worth doing.

Service

Service was outstanding.

There is a main pool which we did not need to use plus the spa pool for adults only.

Conclusion

This hotel comes very close to being my favourite and I would return in an instant.  Exceptionally service, wonderful food and a perfect location.
