The Leela Resort – Goa, India

Impersonal Beach Hotel!

Room Type: Lagoon Suite with Balcony
Stay: 5 Nights

I deeply regret booking this hotel.

Arrival

Very lack lustre welcome, no welcome drink and a wait to get to the room as you have to go by buggy.

Room

Located around the lagoons, the room was on the second level and was actually not bad. Large and modern in style, it was clean and comfortable with patio doors opening on the balcony with seating looking over the lagoons.

The only drawback was the distance back to the main building and the beach, you could call a buggy but a long wait for them.

Size: 90 sqm

Dining

buffet style breakfast in the main restaurant at the Nile Plaza with local delicacies combined with a la carte service and traditional western breakfast fayre with healthy options

We only ate breakfast at the hotel because we had paid for it, we chose not to try any of the other choices as they looked expensive for what was on offer. The restaurant for breakfast was like a canteen, getting a table was nearly impossible and there were not enough staff to clear them. Large buffet style but not much in the way of western choices.

We ate a small local restaurant just outside the gates every evening.

8 Restaurant - Superb Chinese Menu

Service

Dreadful, hotel is too big and impersonal.

Amenities

Swimming Pool - busy with children

Shops

Spa

Beach - long sandy beach with sun beds under the palm trees, no water provided and it is a long walk to get to the sea.  There was a lot of oil around.

Restaurants / Bar

The Restaurant - buffet multi cuisines for breakfast, lunch and dinner

Jamavar - Indian cuisine for dinner

Riverside - Italian fine dining

Susegado - Grill for meat, seafood and salads - lunch, dinner, snacks

Aqua - lounge with disco

Pool Bar - cocktails and drinks all day to 7.30 pm

Yale Lounge - tea and drinks

lavish foyer with plenty of seating in the lobby lounge with tea and snacks on hand

Conclusion

Unfortunately the service and quality of the food at the hotel was dreadfully and it is your typical impersonal beach hotel. After our experience with them in Udaipur we were not surprised but somewhat hopeful it would be different but I cannot recommend it.

The Leela brand does seem to be more a 3 to 4 star level although they have the buildings to be 5 star.

The Leela, Goa

Not 5 star, chose somewhere else possibly The Taj. Click the logo to visit their website
