The Oberoi Amarvilas – Agra, India

What's that I can see just there?

Room Type: Premier Room with Balcony
Stay: 2 Nights

A splurge for two nights in Agra, if you can stop here it is must do, get a room with view of the Taj Mahal, you wake up looking at it… just the icing on the cake!

This was the first Oberoi we stopped at and it is stunning.

Arrival

A very unusual entrance and reception and a weird check in procedure.  We were taken to a small room, given drinks and we then sat there with a member of staff and the tour manager just looking at us for a good 5 minutes until we asked if we could go the room.

Room

The bedroom was lovely, one of my favourites...not huge but furnished with locally sourced furniture and fabrics and that balcony with a view!

Extremely comfortable and a good size bathroom with bath, separate shower, sink and separate toilet plus a small walk in wardrobe.

Size: 65 sqm

Dining

Breakfast is served in the Bellevue restaurant and was excellent with a good selection and a very nice version of my favourite Eggs Benedict 8/10.  We also ate at the Esphahan Indian Restaurant which again was excellent.

We had a package which included evening drinks served on a terrace at The Lounge… great view and managed to get fairly hammered on the last night as the staff were very talkative and kept the refills coming well after the designated hours. We actually delayed departure the next day until the afternoon as I was ‘ill’.... those damn olives!

Service

Service was very good although some of the staff are not as friendly as at other Oberoi’s.

Amenities

The pool area is really nice and they bring a hamper with towels, sun cream, water and soft drinks.  We ordered lunch here, very enjoyable.

Spa - usual treatments, did not go.

Fully equipped Gym

Restaurants / Bar

Esphahan - Mughal Cuisine

Roshanara - currently serving breakfast, lunch and dinner

The Lounge - speciality teas and coffees

The Bar - cocktails, international spirits, iced teas and speciality coffees

Conclusion

Really the only place to stay in Agra, lovely rooms with a view that cannot be beaten.

Location is very handy for getting to the Taj Mahal which is literally just down the road.

I really enjoyed our stay here and would return in an instant... highly recommended.
