The Regent – Singapore

The Regent Singapore

Room Type: Regent Club Executive Suite
Stay: 5 nights

We had to choose another hotel as the Valley wing was double its normal price due to the F1 Grand Prix.  After contacting quite a few regarding smoking options we chose the Regent as it had club facilities and was reasonably priced.

How to get there and Check in

Taxi from the airport took 30 minutes and cost 23 SGD.  Check in was quick at the main reception, no credit card swipe and I was escorted to the room by a very friendly and helpful member of staff who informed me that we had been upgraded.

Room

First impressions were that the room was dated in style and had a slight panic attack as I was taken into the bedroom first which has its own entrance.  It was fairly average with a small marble bathroom with one sink and bathtub with shower over.  Then she opened the door into the very large open plan living and dining area which has two separate balconies (smoking area).  This room has a double door entrance and a separate toilet and sink plus wardrobe space.  This was the Governor’s Suite which is not listed but it identical to the Ambassador Suite

Dining

Stunning setting for breakfast and afternoon tea- plus you can smoke INDOORS!

We decided to try the main restaurant for breakfast the first morning and you get a decent selection although none of my favourites. We then used the Club Lounge for breakfast which was nicer and had a good selection including eggs cooked to order, hot dishes, pastries and cold meats, salad and smoked salmon.

The afternoon tea in the lounge does not offer alcohol just small sandwiches and cakes.

The evening selection is very good with hot and cold selections, cakes and sandwiches, sparkling wine, cocktails and other alcoholic beverages.

You can also smoke on one of the balconies.

We also decided to try their Afternoon Tea as Raffles was booked solid.  This is served in the Tea Lounge on the lobby level and again was excellent with traditional items, scones and clotted cream and some spanish nibbles as a twist.  You can also add Cava and Champagne which we did.

Conclusion

Strong contender for our home away from home in Singapore!

Very impressed with the service and food and although dated the room was very comfortable and clean.  The Club Lounge was really good and we did not miss the free flow booze.  Location is good, we got taxis easily and could probably have walked onto Orchard if we had wished to.

Will certainly be checking the rates against the Valley Wing next time we go.
